HURRICANE IRENE
AND TROPICAL STORM LEE
DEADLINE FOR
FILING IS
NOVEMBER 14, 2011
Declaration of Emergencies
have been signed by the Supervisors for both allowing Township staff to take
emergency action quickly and efficiently if necessary.
To register for assistance
-Telephone 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY at 800-462-7585.
Residents can also visit
the Disaster Recovery Center that is open in the Chester County Government
Services, 601 Westtown Road, Room 042, in West Chester, PA to register for
assistance or to ask questions. Residents can visit this Center for
both Hurricane Irene AND Tropical Storm Lee related damages. The
Center operates seven days a week 10 AM to 7PM.
Winter Weather Emergencies
The best defense against natural emergencies is for
each individual to be as prepared as possible. The problems we expect from
severe winter weather:
- Power failures, possible for extended periods
- Road closures
- Limited availability of food, medicine or supplies
- Possible loss of natural gas, unavailability of
heating oil
Every household should be prepared to get through at
least 3 or 4 days without power, heat and water, and without access to
stores. Useful information about being prepared can be found by going to the
Crisis-Related Agencies website listed below. Don’t forget about medication
you might require, or the needs of your pets or other animals.
The Westtown Emergency Operations Center will be
opened if the Commonwealth or Chester County declare a State of Emergency,
and/or open their EOCs. The Westtown Supervisors or the Westtown Emergency
Management Coordinator can also declare a State of Emergency for Westtown,
and we will open our EOC. Information on the declaration of a State of
Emergency will be available on local radio and TV stations.
Once the Westtown EOC has been opened, if you need
assistance, call the Township Office 610-692-1930. If you get no answer, or
a recorded message stating that the EOC is not open, call 9-1-1.
Most important is to be prepared, be patient, and to
call the Westtown EOC if you need assistance. If you have a life-threatening
problem, call 9-1-1 immediately, not Westtown.
